ISTSS is an international interdisciplinary organization
that promotes advancement and exchange of knowledge about traumatic
stress. Since its inception in 1985, ISTSS has provided a forum
for the sharing of clinical strategies, research findings, public policy
concerns, and theoretical formulations on trauma around the world.
There are 50 countries represented in the Society. In
addition, through its travel grants, sliding scale membership and
conference fees, and enhanced journal access via the Health InterNetwork
Access to Research Initiative (HINARI), ISTSS continues to demonstrate
its commitment to global partnerships.
ISTSS and its affiliated organizations and organizational collaborators form a partnership of professional societies with the aim of advancing the field of traumatic stress worldwide. A representative of each affiliate can serve as an ex-officio member of the ISTSS Board of Directors, and a representative of ISTSS likewise can serve on the Board of each affiliated organization. Members of the affiliate societies enjoy a number of benefits with regard to ISTSS membership dues, conference registration, and access to ISTSS publications.
ISTSS supports conference attendees coming from developing countries and experiencing financial hardship due to fees or travel costs. Travel grants are supported by voluntary contributions from ISTSS members. Learn about the program and find out how to make a donation to the Travel Grant Fund.
Since 2003, Travel Grants have helped more than 20 colleagues from 13 countries to attend the ISTSS Annual Meeting. Recent awardees have come from Armenia, Brazil, China, Indonesia, Israel, Kenya, Mexico, Peru, the Russian Federation, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, South Africa, and Turkey. This international diversity enriches the Annual Meeting for everyone involved.
