ISTSS has developed guidelines for the treatment of Complex PTSD. The guidelines were developed by the Complex Trauma Task Force under the direction of the Board of Directors. The taskforce was formed in 2000. In 2005, the Task Force published a series of papers in a special section of the Journal of Traumatic Stress (Volume 18). In 2008, ISTSS surveyed experts in the field about salient symptoms of complex PTSD and recommendations for its treatment (see Cloitre, Courtois, Charuvastra, et al., 2011).
The free ISTSS Expert Consensus Guidelines for Complex PTSD in Adults is the result of this cumulative work and a comprehensive review of the empirical and clinical literature.
