Thank you to everyone who participated in the ISTSS 30th Annual Meeting in Miami. More than 1,200 attendees from around the world contributed knowledge and new insights into the short- and long-term effects childhood trauma can have on individuals and communities.

Marten deVries and Llew Smith opened this year’s conference by showing how film and mass media can be used to “Change Hearts and Minds” and raise public awareness about the causes and consequences of childhood trauma. Keynote speaker Martin Teicher gave an inspiring look into how childhood trauma can affect the developing brain. And in her keynote address Maggie Schauer emphasized that childhood trauma is not just traceable to a single event in a child’s life, but reorganizes a heritage that has been shaped by stressful experiences of ancestors. She also reminded us that childhood trauma is a question of human rights.

More than 700 symposia, workshop, panel, paper and poster presentations, covering topics such as ethics, neurobiology, war trauma, refugees, terror, interventions and parenting after trauma, reflected the breadth of the ISTSS community. New this year was a separate Spanish track with simultaneously translated presentations.

In the closing panel discussion three pioneers in the child trauma field, Irene Intebi, William Yule and Lucy Berliner, looked back on their experiences and their clinical work and research with different populations of traumatized children over the last 30 years and discussed current challenges for our field. It reminds us of the importance of always seeking new knowledge to promote the healing of lives and communities.

If you were unable to attend this year’s conference, we hope you will mark your calendar for the ISTSS 31st Annual Meeting, being held November 5-7, 2015 (Pre-Meeting Institutes November 4) in New Orleans, Louisiana USA! Abstract submissions runs February 3 - March 17, 2015.
