ISTSS International and Student Travel Grant Programs
Each year, trauma specialists engaged in important and cutting edge research and clinical work in developing countries are unable to attend the ISTSS Annual Meeting. Their salaries are typically such that the expense of transportation, hotel and registration fees may exceed their ability to pay (and in some cases be more than their annual salary). In such circumstances, it is impossible for them to participate in the Meeting.
A limited number of International travel grants are available from ISTSS each year to support the Meeting attendees coming from developing countries and experiencing financial hardship with fees or travel costs. The travel grants are supported by voluntary contributions from ISTSS members. Your financial support to the ISTSS International Travel Grant Fund will enable ISTSS to support more members to attend and present their work at the Meeting.
Priority is given to those from developing countries who have not received an ISTSS Travel Grant in the past and who will be making a presentation at the ISTSS Meeting. (Individuals who have received an ISTSS Travel Grant Award in the past are not eligible for another ISTSS Travel Grant Award for 3 years). ISTSS Travel Grant Award recipients are chosen for being in a position to contribute to and influence traumatic stress study and treatment in their own countries. They come to share their knowledge, learn from their colleagues and network with mentors and peers. ISTSS encourages applications from individuals who will be able to use the information they learn at the conference to make a public mental health impact in their local communities. This impact may, for example, be in the area of psychosocial interventions in developing countries and/or may include a train the trainer model.
Student members of ISTSS may also apply for a travel grant to attend and present at the ISTSS Annual meeting. The cost of attending the meeting, transportation, housing and registration, often are far beyond the financial capabilities of students. The ISTSS Student Travel Grants will allow a few deserving students to attend the ISTSS Annual meeting.
Make a difference today to furthering the mission of ISTSS to truly make our organization international and promote the advancement and exchange of knowledge about severe stress and trauma around the world. Make a donation to the ISTSS Travel Grant Funds.
