ISTSS Responds to Recent Earthquake in Indonesia

ISTSS

April 1, 2006

ISTSS moved swiftly to respond to the May 27 earthquake in the Indian Ocean that killed more than 5,000 people and injured more 36,000 in Indonesia. The society has placed a link on its home page, www.istss.org, leading to a Web page with resources, information and links for trauma professionals.

ISTSS Public Education Pamphlets and fact sheets available on the page provide readily accesible information on important trauma-related issues useful in the aftermath of a tragedy such as the recent earthquake.

In lieu of any donations to ISTSS, the society asks that those wishing to contibute to earthquake relief donate to Doctors Without Borders, a group providing emergency medical relief in the affected region. Donations can be made at www.doctorswithoutborders.org/donate/index.cfm.

In addition, ISTSS headquarters has fielded several media requests, and directed them to appropriate clinical sources. Reporters and media representatives should contact Diane Rutherford at ISTSS Headquarters with requests, [email protected]; tel 847-480-9028; fax 847-480-9282.
